More Innovative NFT Gaming In 2023 Likely
By Ruchi Sharma
NFT gaming was one of 2022’s biggest new NFT trends. NFTs in gaming can unlock and add value to gameplay already experienced. Here are a few NFT gaming themes to look out for in 2023.
1) More tournaments
The thrill of competition, the glory of skillful wins, the gain of achievements and rewards, and the sense of belonging to a community of passionate peers are all reasons why players find tournaments so exciting. Tournaments are an excellent way to provide players with fun and compelling experiences on a regular basis in NFT games.
One project that is nailing the tournament approach currently is Sorare: NBA, which lets players build fantasy decks and then register for a variety of different competitions whenever they’d like.
2) Flexible crypto-native designs
When NFT games release updates, the game creators may temporarily pause their contract(s), forcing players to unstake or migrate their gaming assets, which is inconvenient.
Shattered EON, which is set to release in April 2023, is one game that is addressing this issue right now. It is doing so through the Diamond Standard smart contract approach, which allows NFT games to easily extend and update their projects.
3) More on-chain game engine experiments
The term “on-chain game engine” refers to a set of smart contracts designed to power a game’s backend indefinitely on a blockchain such as Ethereum.
They enable third-party developers to freely create new experiences around and on top of NFT games. This dynamic opens the door to modding, which allows players to actively choose how they want to enjoy and experience their favourite games.
For example Curio, Lattice, and Adam Cochran have introduced new on-chain game engines.
4) No-token games
Single-token or dual-token models are the most popular approaches for NFT games. Both of these approaches have significant drawbacks; to address these drawbacks, 0xKepler proposed the development of a no-token model that would rely on “off-chain currency + NFTs for value accrual.”
The idea is that players could “mint NFTs against their off-chain currency,” reducing direct fiat exchanges and thus the financial motivations that can derail an NFT game if left unchecked. This can result in more enjoyable and balanced games.
It’s an extremely exciting time to be a part of the NFT ecosystem. The possibilities and technology are expanding. The gameplay is becoming more detailed, and our collective infrastructure and knowledge are expanding in all directions. There will be no shortage of NFT gaming projects making significant progress in 2023!
