Lens Protocol: Unalterable Social Media Graph
By Sandeep Kasalkar
A blockchain-based open-source social graph called Lens Protocol was developed to alter social media concepts in the Web3 and decentralized eras. Unlike contemporary Web2 social media platforms like Twitter or Facebook that use social graphs to develop interconnections among users of social networks solely in a centralized manner, Lens Protocol is designed to be permissionless and composable of empowering content creators to “own their digital roots” and enable people to uncompromisingly own the connections between themselves and the communities.
As a consequence of Lens Protocol development, the decentralized social network that users completely own emerged, giving them back ownership of their information and links and even allowing options to monetize their material.
Lens Protocol was announced in early 2022 and received a lot of interest in the blockchain and crypto circles owing to the groundbreaking nature of the social networking product and the well-known Aave team creating it. Lens Protocol, as a branch of one of the Ethereum ecosystem’s key lending platforms, tries to address fundamental problems in the present social media environment, which it achieves rather well, gradually establishing a network of loyal members of a Web3-ready community.
Advantages of the Lens Protocol
The social network of Lens Protocol is created using a graph database (GDB). These databases store data in graph topologies, which have individual nodes, edges connecting them, places, things, and other attributes. These graphs display the connections between network members.
- A censorship-resistant environment that cannot be interrupted is first and principally created by the permissionless independent network of the Lens Protocol. No third entity, not even centralized authority, has the power to delete, edit, or block any material or profile.
- With it, Lens Protocol users own their content and data and can utilize them in any social media platform or DApp built on top of the protocol. Furthermore, building a full-fledged Web3 social platform with Lens Protocol is possible. Lens Protocol-based applications benefit from the flourishing ecosystem and profit from the protocol’s modularity and easily customized features.
- Last but not least, the proof-of-stake (PoS) method used by Lens Protocol makes its blockchain economical and energy-efficient, especially when compared to the proof-of-work (PoW) process that uses a lot of computing resources.
