NFTs Empowering Women

By Ruchi Sharma

The art world has hailed NFTs as democratizing forces, but the environment has also encouraged the spread of the same institutionalized prejudices that pervade modern society.

There is positive news, though. Realizing these market gaps, a number of women have stepped up to create strong collections that highlight women. Aside from the NFTs, a lot of these initiatives aim to empower women both within and outside of the community. Celebrities support a few of these initiatives, which generate millions of dollars in sales volume.

Female NFT artists have created some of the most remarkable projects, ranging from empowering and promoting women globally to diversifying the NFT realm.

Below is a list of the top 5 NFT projects that women have led.

1- World of Women

One of the most popular female-led NFT initiatives on the market, World of Women, was introduced in July 2021. Celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon and Eva Longoria have come to love the assortment of 10,000 distinct and varied female NFT avatars.

Actually, two of the project’s primary goals are to help women-focused nonprofits and independent crypto artists. For instance, the WoW Fund, established with 15% of the first-party revenues, showcases up-and-coming NFT artists in the industry. Additionally, the project provides funding to other organizations led by women that prioritize sustainability, including Code Green NFT, She’s the First, and Too Young To Wed.

Two NFT collections have been released thus far by the initiative:

WoW: 10,000 randomly created images of women, each showcasing a different set of qualities and attributes.

WoW Galaxy: An extension of the first set, which included 22,000 distinct NFTs.

Apart from having published two NFT volumes, WoW has a strong philanthropic spirit. They gave $2 million to charity projects last year, with a focus on women, girls, and the environment.

August 2023 saw the return of WoW and The Sandbox’s annual “Belonging Week” event.

As part of the collaboration, WoW artwork will be on display at a “metaverse-enabled WoW Museum,” which will also highlight WoW’s impact on Web3 and its past narratives.

2- Sad Girls Bar

For individuals who appreciate chic, monochromatic artwork, Sad Girls Bar is the ideal option. Female artist Glam Beckett released this NFT collection in August 2021. The collection includes 10,000 NFTs crafted from over 350 attributes. A few of these characteristics are tattoos, wild haircuts, or even alcohol consumption. The collection is highly relatable and speaks to individuals who enjoy a gothic style. The collection, which centers on themes of love and death, sorrow and loneliness, dark romance, and witchy vibes, actually perfectly captures Beckett’s artistic approach.

Skeletongue and Sad Cat, two other companion compilations, quickly followed suit. In reality, individuals who gather all three of the project’s NFTs have the opportunity to create a “super NFT.” In addition, the Sad Girls Bar NFT project grants its backers other advantages, one of which is access to a Sad Girls Bar in the metaverse in the future.

3- Boss Beauties

Boss Beauties is another excellent female-led NFT initiative that is causing a stir in the industry. Lisa Mayer, whose company, My Social Canvas, has been teaching and empowering women and girls for the past ten years, is the project’s creator. A portion of the sales proceeds from Boss Beauties, an extension of this purpose, go toward funding scholarships and mentorship programs for young women. The project has achieved several significant milestones since its September 2022 launch, including becoming the first NFT to list on the New York Stock Exchange.

In essence, Boss Beauties is a collection of 10,000 diverse female avatars portraying varying degrees of power. There are images of physicians, astronauts, presidents, mothers, soldiers, and more throughout the collection. The collection has traded 12,500 ETH, or almost $31 million, on OpenSea as of right now. Additionally, a number of well-known people, including Morgan Lake, Jade Roper Tolbert, and Eva Longoria, are pleased owners of Boss Beauties NFTs.

4-The Flower Girls

Illustrator and graphic designer Varvara Alay introduced the Flower Girls NFT collection in December of last year. Varvara Alay created the 10,000 distinct NFTs in the Ethereum-based collection using more than 950 manually drawn attributes. The series stands out in the crowded collectibles market thanks to Alay’s surrealistic and abstract artwork. The NFTs are truly magnificent fine art pieces, with themes of diversity, purity, and natural beauty at their core.

The Flower Girls project’s primary objective is to help children. To help with this, the group will donate 20% of primary and secondary sales to various children’s organizations. In addition, they have set aside 5% of their primary and secondary sales to acquire NFT artwork created by kids. In the three months following its release, Flower Girls amassed nearly $10 million in OpenSea sales.

Celebrities that support it include Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Eva Longoria, Gary Vaynerchuk, and Brie Larson.

5- Women Rise

Women Rise is another relatively recent NFT collection in the market, led by women. Celebrities like Gary Vaynerchuk, who earned 10 NFTs during the project’s December debut, have already endorsed it, though. In a short amount of time, the project has generated over $13 million in OpenSea trade volume. Renowned visual artist Maliha Abidi created the 10,000 NFTs in the series to represent women worldwide. Abidi is an American-Pakistani artist who uses her work to promote social justice.

This compilation truly recognizes the activists, artists, scientists, coders, and many others rising to make the world a better place. Supporting global initiatives for gender equality is one of the project’s main objectives. To that end, they have committed to donating 7.5 percent of their earnings to global organizations that support women’s rights, gender parity, girls’ education, and other causes.

In addition to addressing the gender gap in Web3, female-led NFT projects are using their platforms to promote diversity and support social concerns. These initiatives show that women in the sector are becoming more recognized and supported, even in the face of challenges like male dominance.

These projects have the potential to spur significant change and mold a more varied and socially conscious future for digital art and technology as the Web3 landscape continues to develop.
